Few people know that the center of Maisonneuve College is occupied by a huge greenhouse housing magnificent indoor gardens created during the 1970s. About fifty years after their creation, these aging gardens required major renovations.
To preserve the immense existing trees—Chilean araucarias and fig trees 25 meters (82 feet) tall—and to integrate a collection of tropical plants worthy of the greatest botanical gardens, we built a series of Corten steel planting containers. Several containers integrated to the benches and a green wall were also installed in this project.
It seems that plants make humans smarter. Australian scientists have discovered that the presence of plants in classrooms and schools allows students to have better results on exams than those who do not have contact with plants. It's particularly pleasant to see these indoor gardens crowded with students who enjoy being there to recharge their batteries, study, or simply chat with friends.
This interior landscaping was designed and created in collaboration with Taktik Design and Wallemi.
